It is quite remarkable how Kuya Berta’s life has transformed. Despite being labeled a “hopeless addict” and a streetdweller for 20 plus years.
Upon his arrival in Safehaven 3 years ago, he rarely bathed, a consequence of his drug addiction that had plagued him for over two decades. His appearance deteriorated and he succumbed to a severe drug-induced psychosis, making him difficult to manage. However, he astounded us by gradually transforming himself during the course of his treatment, embracing a normal life once again.
Nobody could have predicted that he would one day have the opportunity to travel. Yesterday, he embarked on a boat ride to Leyte with some of our colleagues from Safehaven Recovery Village . Today, he is savoring every moment. Next month, he will even have the chance to fly to Luzon.
Kuya Berta currently works as an administrative staff member at Safehaven. After completing his treatment in Safehaven last 2021, he made the decision to stay and continue his journey of helping others and saving lives. Truly, God’s intervention has brought HOPE and transformation to his life.
